You’re paying rent — that’s basically a permanent hotel room in the greatest city in the world.

Why are only tourists taking walking tours? New York is storied, wild, and trailblazing. Come on out for a walk, see the kind of unpredictable things that you can only find in New York on the streets, while you hear a lively, abridged history of the neighborhood and its people.

Seems like every New York neighborhood - especially the ones downtown - is a main character with its own back story that explains the here and now of the city we love. Every generation brings a new flavor to the streets and gives these little villages a narrative arc that’s all its own and, in a city like this, epic.

We start and end right in front of a bar, so you can seamlessly bookend your curiosity with happy hour imbibing.

History Happy Hour: Greenwich Village

This walk takes you through Greenwich Village, which has landmarks that go back to the British Colony and current places that boast some of the most worthy TikTok-inspired food lines. This is the neighborhood where much of today's culture and counterculture were born, and was the location for firsts like the first pride parade, the first performance of the song Strange Fruit, and the first Timothee Chalamet look-a-like contest.

Start: Amelie Wine Bar, West Village

22 West 8th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues
